Slow Fade

After our home improvement bathroom project, I have been thinking so much about how one thing leads to another. I heard this song and it fit perfect for what I have been thinking. It is called Slow Fade by Casting Crowns. I remember singing part of the song growing up, "oh, be careful little ears what your hear. Oh, be careful little eyes what you see. Oh, be careful little mouth what you see." It is so true.

I think my favorite part is "people never crumble in a day, it's a slow fade." It is the small, seemingly little choices that lead to the big fall. The second glance, the flattery that leads to compromise, the desire for man's approval. It leads somwhere and often it is right into the darkness.

I have a middle schooler and it seems like everyday I am sending him out into the darkness of this world. How do I help him? I just don't know. I am using this song to explain how one thing leads to another, how he won't intentionally walk away from his walk with the Lord. It is a slow fade. I pray that we all see where we are slowing fading away from Him and turn back quickly.

Be careful little eyes what you see
It's the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it's the little feet behind you that are sure to follow

It's a slow fade when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
It's a slow fade, it's a slow fade

Be careful little ears what you hear
When flattery leads to compromise, the end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises lead broken hearts astray

It's a slow fade when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day

The journey from your mind to your hands
Is shorter than you're thinking
Be careful if you think you stand
You just might be sinking

It's a slow fade when you give yourself away
It's a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
Daddies never crumble in a day
Families never crumble in a day

Oh be careful little eyes what see
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above is looking down in love
Oh be careful little eyes what you see

VERY profound! For years I have known this to be true, and it's easy to start slipping without realizing. I pray God's grace on us all to hold us up and give us discernment when we start to slide. This is what happened to my ex-husband, and it led to total destruction of not only his life (sadly), but the family he claimed to love the most.
I've seen it in my own life, and my kids too. Praise God for His keeping power! Put your kids in His hands and be circumspect in your own life, just as the point of your post and that song state.
Thanks for the reminder
