Tuesday's Token

I am going to start sharing quotes that I find that I like on Tuesday's. Here is one that spoke to me today. I am reading Practical Theology for Women by Wendy Horger Alsup and love this one.

It is from C.S. Lewis in The Weight of Glory
"We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinate joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."

I think that this speaks for itself.

Mmm...and why is it that we are so easily pleased? Why don't we grasp the infinite joy of every single day? I think because we are not quiet enough to hear the birds in our yard. We are not still enough to read the book to our son before bed. Life continues to demand and demand and we must meet the demand of the day. What we need is a reservation with quiet. A time to sit and just listen. Ps. 96:10 tells us we must Be Still...when we listen and hear his voice, we will never want to miss it again. But we have to want it. How many of us want it? And when we do want it, and we tell someone we want it, and they don't understand we end up feeling alone, and crazy. How do we build a community of people who are head over heels in love with Jesus and that is all they want? That, sister, is infinite joy...and once we have experienced it...we will no longer be far too easily pleased!
